Meet Sydney “Chance.” This is her story.
On April 3, 2012, life changed suddenly.
While I was in the restroom Chance went into Brandon’s room to watch TV like always. She was running in and out of my bathroom. And I would say, “Chance get out of here” and she would laugh and run away. When she ran out the last time, I hid by the bathroom door knowing that she would come back in and I was right. She came back and I said, “What are you doing Chance?” We were both laughing and she said, “I love you Mama’. I said, ” I love you too Chance”. That was the last thing I said to her.
It was the last thing I said to her that was received by her.
Three minutes later, Brandon came running into my bedroom crying. I asked him, “What’s wrong Brandon?” He said, “The TV fell!!!” I’m confused because I didn’t hear anything fall. So, I’m thinking to myself, “Ok, why is he crying because the TV fell?” But the look in his face told me that something wasn’t right. I then run into his room and I see something that will haunt me forever. I see my Chance underneath the dresser and she’s unconscious. Her small body muted the sound of the dresser and tv falling.
At 4:44 pm on April 4, 2012, Sydney Chance Bowles, my baby girl, lost her life to a TV/Furniture Tip Over. Something I never heard of happening before.
You aren’t supposed to bury your child. But, it hurts even more when you know that the accident could have been prevented.
